  • For local and aspiring artists, a new eight-week workshop in medieval egg tempera painting will begin on Monday, Sept. 24 at Brighton Continuing Education.
This unusual art form, in which natural pigments, egg yolk and pure gold are combined to create jewel-like icons on wooden panels, will give art-lovers at all skill levels a chance to study and paint in the most popular form of the 12th to 14th centuries.
Using authentic, medieval techniques, student will be encouraged to work either with traditional, religious designs or to devise subjects and styles depicting their own lives, interests and dreams.
The class, taught by Brighton artist Bunny Goldstein, will also offer a weekly talk illuminating medieval art and life.
Classes will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brighton High School, 1150 South Winton Road, Rochester. For more information and registration, contact the Brighton Continuing Education office at 585-242-5191 or email Mona_Zamiarski@bcsd.org. More information on the egg tempera technique and its history can be found at Goldstein’s website, temperaworkshop.com.
