  • LINDA TANGE TUCKER: Wayne County Nursing Home personnel are No. 1

  • A multitude of thanks go to the personnel at WCNH for the care they gave to my family. Words can’t express my appreciation for your care of my family.

From 1997 to 2002, and from 2008 to 2012, my parents, Mary and Frank Tange, and my aunt and uncle, Madelyn and Vincent Nieskes, respectively, resided in the Wayne County Nursing Home. Before they needed to live there, they made it known to the family that the WCNH was their first choice if they couldn’t live at home. After experiencing the care they received, I know why it was their first choice.
The No. 1 reason they and our family had an excellent experience was because of the personnel. In my experience, people who work at the WCNH are very caring, friendly, respectful and capable people. It starts at the front door with the receptionist and the admissions person. They welcome you! The aides, food personnel and nursing staff develop a positive relationship with the residents that make the residents feel valued and cared for in a special way. The recreation department tries to fill the residents’ day with fun activities and social opportunities.
My mom laid in bed for three years, unable to move on her own accord. She never had a bed sore because two people moved her several times a day from bed to chair to make her comfortable. My aunt and uncle shared a room, and when my uncle died, the staff went out of their way to find just the right roommate for my aunt so that the transition would go well.
The nurses and doctor always kept me well informed. Since I live out of state, they would call me regularly to update me on my family member’s condition. The doctor even gave me his cell phone number. I was able to participate in care conferences by phone. When I visited, whether or not they knew I was coming, I always found my loved one receiving excellent care.
A multitude of thanks go to the personnel at WCNH for the care they gave to my family. Words can’t express my appreciation for your care of my family.
Linda Tange Tucker lives in Raleigh, N.C.
