Dr. Mustafa Abushagur has been elected as the new prime minister of Libya.
A former Rochester Institute of Technology professor has been elected as the new prime minister of Libya.
Dr. Mustafa Abushagur was elected Wednesday in a close vote by Parliament.
Abushagur joined RIT as a professor of electrical engineering in 2002, and then became president of RIT Dubai in 2008.
Abushagur had been deputy prime minister in Libya and was a leading member of Libya's oldest opposition movement. He stepped down from his duties at RIT Dubai upon being named deputy prime minister.
Abushagur previously lived in Brighton.
