There’s a new group in the village of Webster who are calling themselves “Citizens for a Prosperous Village.” They sent out a flier to some selected households (mine was not one of those selected). I don’t know who they are because they are only identified by that name and a post office box.

The entire flier talks about the Webster Village Water Company and urges the village mayor to “protect the huge investment you have made in the village water system.” The flier also describes the 2010 Village Water Committee and its work and gives some information about the report submitted by that committee. Some of the statements they wrote in their flier are accurate and some are not accurate.

I was a member of that 2010 Village Water Committee. I was on that committee because I am interested in the village and its operations, and I also would like the village to be prosperous.

I would like an opportunity to talk to this group and see if we can come together and talk about the 2010 Water Committee report, but more importantly, to talk about the future of the village water system. Getting this water situation right may possible dictate the future of the village of Webster.

I offered to talk to the Village Board about the village water system. I’ve made that offer two times during the public forum part of their board meetings, but none of the five members of the board have ever approached me or tried to contact me. In fact, Mayor Elder said to me, “We don’t need to hear you. We know where you are coming from,” when I asked him if he and the board were interested in this citizen’s comments and ideas.

I have lived in the village since 1966 (45-plus years). I’ve been active in many areas of the village and town: the Webster School Board, the BOCES No. 1 board, the Webster Museum board, the Webster Community Chest board, the Union Hill Fire Department (Ambulance EMT), the Webster Volunteer Fire Department (Fire Police and board), the town of Webster Planning Board and Board of Assessment Review, the Webster Sports Boosters, my church and other activities. I am a citizens interested in the village. But the board apparently doesn’t want to hear from this citizen.
