This year, Trees for Troops provided over 17,000 farm-fresh Christmas trees to military families and troops, bringing our total since the inception of the program to more than 192,000 trees.
FedEx delivered this year’s trees to 63 military bases in the U.S. and overseas, covering every branch of the armed services. In New York, trees were delivered to soldiers and their families at West Point, Fort Drum and several National Guard bases across the state.
Thank you to our local tree farmers and their supporters who donated trees for this national program — Aman’s Nursery in Newark, Pinewood Road Tree Farm and Brickle’s Tree Farm in Phelps and Darling Tree Farm in Clifton Springs.
A special thanks to the Phelps American Legion who picked up all these trees and delivered them to pick up points in Weedsport and Rochester, and to Elderlee in Oaks Corners for providing two trucks for those deliveries.
We also participated in delivering over 60 trees to our local soldiers serving in harm’s way. We received support from many businesses, organizations and individuals from our community, including Mrs. Maslyn’s second-graders at Midlakes. We cannot thank our community enough for its support to help us send them.
We want our soldiers to come home safe, but until then we will support them the way we know best — giving them a farm-fresh, made in the USA Christmas tree.
