The Canandaigua VA Medical Center is asking Greater Rochester veterans who receive care from a VA medical center or community-based outpatient clinic to share their creative abilities by participating in the National Veterans Creative Arts Competition.

Art categories include fine art such as painting, drawing, sculpture and photography; applied art including ceramics, carving, needlework and leatherwork; and craft kits such as string art, fabric art and wood building.

The competition provides veterans the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression through art, creative writing, dance, drama and music as part of their therapy and to gain recognition for these artistic accomplishments.

Artwork will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 8 at the Canandaigua VA Medical Center, 400 Fort Hill Ave. Local artists will judge the artwork to determine first, second and third place in each category. The first place pieces will advance to the national level.
