The 2017 Sokol High School Literary Awards Contest will be open to poetry, short fiction prose and/or recorded performance submissions from Monroe County student writers in grades 9-12 through Jan. 31.

The Friends and Foundation of the Rochester Public Library has sponsored a creative contest for high school students since 1958. Eli and Mildred Sokol established an endowment through the Community Foundation to provide cash prizes to contest winners in 1985.

Students will be eligible to win first, second or third prize. A performance prize will be awarded to the best performed original work.

The award ceremony will be at 4 p.m. May 4 at the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County, 115 South Ave., Rochester.
