The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority presented the Rochester Institute of Technology with a High Performance Building plaque, the group announced on Dec. 15.
NYSERDA recognized RIT for energy-saving investments which are estimated to have reduced this year's energy costs by $49,558. High-efficiency equipment will allow the 54,000-square-foot University Services Center to save more than 360,085 kilowatt-hours annually. This is equivalent to the amount of energy consumed by about 50 single-family households, according to a release.
The energy-efficiency improvements included an HVAC system, high-efficiency lighting and premium efficiency motors. NYSERDA helped fund the project through $170,581 in incentives.
The University Services Center at RIT is the first building in Monroe County, and the second university facility in New York, to receive Platinum Certifications from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.
