Local teacher Dan Fullerton has published a new physics book aimed at high school students.
With topics including Newton's laws of motion and gravity, magnetism, energy, power and microelectronics, as well as modern physics, Fullerton said his book, "A Plus Physics," is different from most high school textbooks.
The book is designed to be easily readable and it helps students learn by using a variety of multimedia methods on the accompanying website, APlusPhysics.com, Fullerton said in a press release.
Online, students can find a variety of additional teaching material, including videos, discussion forums, student blogs and podcasts.
Fullerton also said in the press release that he believes the book creates a "learning community in which the community members act as both learners and teachers."
Instead of the one-way teaching style typically used in physics classrooms, he allows information to flow both ways, engaging students in their own education despite traditionally difficult subject matter.
The website is also geared toward helping high school students pass the New York State Board of Regents Physics Examination, as well as honors physics and AP physics courses conducted throughout the state.
Fullerton is a physics teacher at Irondequoit High School and an adjunct professor of microelectronic engineering at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
