Finals week in college means late-night studying and early mornings finishing up projects. To help people stay awake, students at Rochester Institute of Technology are selling caffeinated waffles, with all proceeds going to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Will Hagen, a second-year international business and game design and development major from Seattle, and Colden Cullen, a second-year game design and development major from Newcomb, N.Y., wanted to find their own way to help the American Red Cross with disaster relief.

“We thought, ‘What is the silliest thing we could put caffeine in to help students stay awake for finals week?’” Cullen said. “The caffeine powder added to the waffle mix is perfectly safe and gives a 100 milligram jolt, equivalent to a cup of coffee.”

The treats are available 7:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. today through Nov. 15 in RIT’s Infinity Quad. Caffeinated waffles are $3, while regular butter waffles are $2.
