A program titled “Deranged or Depressed? Diagnosing Mary Todd Lincoln” is being presented from 2 to 4 p.m. this Sunday, March 10 at Harmony House, 58 E. Main St., Webster.

Local author and Irondequoit native Patricia A. Nugent will lead a discussion about Mary Todd Lincoln, presenting from her recently published online article in Ms. Magazine.

The discussion will explore how extreme grief can masquerade as insanity. Books written about Mrs. Lincoln will also be reviewed.

“Since Mrs. Lincoln was brought to life on the big screen by Sally Field in “Lincoln,” there’s heightened compassion for, and interest in, this woman so loved by our beloved 16th President, yet called ‘one of the most detested public women in American history’ by historians,” Nugent said. “She deserves a second look.”

Nugent is also the author of “They Live On: Saying Goodbye to Mom and Dad,” a compilation of vignettes portraying the stages of caring for and saying goodbye to a loved one.

Nugent has served as a school administrator and adjunct professor. She has a graduate degree in communication from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

The free program is sponsored by Yesterday’s Muse Books, 32 W. Main St., Webster. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call (585) 265-9295 or visit www.websterbookstore.com.
