The Rochester Music Hall of Fame announced the 2013 inductees at a ceremony Thursday morning.
The inductees are: George Eastman, Lou Gramm, Eddie James “Son” House, Bat McGrath, Mitch Miller, Nick Nickson, Jack Palvino and Don Potter.
The inductees were chosen based on their contribution to Rochester’s musical history.
Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks says their legacy is helping the future of music and arts in our community.
“Even as we speak, across the street at the Eastman School of Music, we have the next generation of hall of famers," Brooks said. "Our music history will just keep on giving to Rochester and Monroe County.”
The Rochester Music Hall of Fame's first induction ceremony took place last year, and event producer Bruce Pilato said it was a learning experience.
"What we learned last year was that with proper planning and proper support from sponsors, we could put a world-class event on," Pilato said. "This year I think it's going to be just as exciting. We have some big surprises coming."
Rochester Music Hall of Fame founder Karl LaPorta agreed.
"We generated an awful lot of excitement with the first event," LaPorta said. "It just proved what we thought all along, that Rochester is a terrific music city that appreciates good music."
LaPorta and Pilato promised "big names" would appear at this year's celebration, including all living inductees. The induction ceremony will take place on April 28, and according to Pilato, it won't be the last.
"People say to us, 'This'll be good for a couple years and then you'll be out of people to induct,'" he said. "That's really not true. Every day we're discovering more people who have a Rochester connection. There's going to be quite a bit more down the road."
