Henrietta Town Court Judge Jim Piampiano has thrown his hat into the ring for the Monroe County Court election.

The Henrietta resident has run his own legal practice since 1978 and is also an acting Rochester City Court judge and Rochester Teen Court judge.

“I really enjoy the work in town court, the challenge of finding the middle ground in terms of protecting the constitutional rights of the defendant and maintaining the safety and security of the community,” Piampiano said.

Piampiano, who was nominated by the Republican Party and has been endorsed by the Conservative and Independence parties, said his 30 years of practicing in court before serving as a judge make him aware of the important issues. His legal practice focuses on criminal defense and civil litigation.

“Little things are important to me: Starting court on time, giving everyone the right to be heard, and being patient with people and respectful of everyone that comes to the bench,” Piampiano said.

He is the president-elect of the Monroe County Magistrates Association.

Piampiano, 59, and his wife Karen have lived in Henrietta since 1996.

He is running for one of three open County Court seats in November.

One open seat is currently held by Judge Richard A. Keenan, who is retiring at the end of the year; another was held by Judge John Connell, who died earlier this year; and the third was held by Judge Alex Renzi, who is now a supreme court judge.

Republicans have also nominated East Rochester Town Court Judge Victoria Argento and Irondequoit Town Court Judge Vincent Dinolfo. County Democrats have nominated Brighton Town Court Judge Karen Morris and former county assistant district attorneys Kelly C. Wolford and Vincent Rizzo. Wolford was appointed as an interim County Court judge in May. Rizzo is expected to be appointed as the other interim County Court judge this month.
