Bivona Child Advocacy Center in Rochester and its 20 partner agencies met today to renew their commitment to offering services and resources to children in the greater Rochester area who have been sexually or physically abused.

Each of Bivona’s partner agencies formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding, a document regarding the operating guidelines for conducting the investigation, evaluation and treatment of child abuse.

“The issue of child sexual and physical abuse is a major problem,” said Mary Whittier, executive director of the center. “While the statistics are horrific and depressing, we are here today to celebrate because we have an organization and a partnership in our community fighting every single day for our kids.”

The event coincided with National Child Abuse Prevention Month, proclaimed by Deputy Monroe County Executive Daniel M. DeLaus Jr. on behalf of County Executive Maggie Brooks.

“The Bivona Child Advocacy Center, whose assistance helped over 1,500 local children last year, is a critical partner in the fight against child abuse,” DeLaus said.
