| In three sentences, can you tell us how you got into your line of work? |
I started Heatherdale Stitchery in 2007 when I sought to fill a niche in providing attractive, high-quality gifts and show awards, and then expanded to include business and hobby logo items, gifts and personalized apparel, especially for purebred animal fanciers, small businesses and schools. We use Brother six- and 10-needle embroidery machines and can make designs up to 14 inches, using our own extensive stock designs or our customers’ original graphics and photographs. |
| What do you like most about your work, and what do you like least? |
The greatest reward is hearing from all the satisfied customers who express their pleasure with a quality product at a reasonable price. These returning customers and their referrals are the best, as what I like least is not having enough time to develop new markets. |
| What advice do you have for someone who wants to open a business? |
In these tough economic times, identifying a real need or niche market is vital, then working hard to develop loyal customers and a solid reputation by never promising something you can’t deliver. |
